Bio

Karen Yoder serves as Athletic Director at Solano College, bringing more than three decades of experience in athletics leadership, education, and advocacy. She also serves as Commissioner of the Western State Conference. Known for her championship mindset and student-centered approach, Yoder is deeply committed to advancing student-athlete success, equity, and inclusion across all levels of intercollegiate athletics.

At Solano College, Yoder leads with a clear vision of building a competitive, values-driven athletics program that prioritizes academic achievement, leadership development, and holistic student success. Her concurrent role as Commissioner of the Western State Conference further enhances her ability to strengthen institutional alignment, foster collaboration, and expand opportunities for student-athletes and member programs alike.

Prior to joining Solano College, Yoder served as Director of Athletics and Physical Education at Cal Maritime, where she was a member of the President’s Cabinet and a CSU Title IX Hearing Advisor. She also served the NAIA on the National Administrative Council for the Championships Committee. During her leadership at Cal Maritime and previously as Athletic Director at Mission College, Yoder founded Athletics Hall of Fame programs at both institutions, reflecting her strong commitment to honoring alumni achievements and preserving the traditions and legacy of each program. She is widely recognized for cultivating inclusive, equity-minded environments and for aligning athletics with broader institutional missions centered on student development and leadership.

Yoder’s extensive background includes leadership roles across the NCAA, NAIA, 3C2A, and CIF, with professional experience at UC Davis, UNC Greensboro, Mission College, Diablo Valley College, Napa Valley College, Cal State East Bay, West Valley College, and the Calistoga Joint Unified School District. A seasoned administrator, educator, and former Division I coach, she has consistently built and led programs that emphasize integrity, accountability, and competitive excellence.

Her coaching career is highlighted by her tenure at UC Davis, where she guided the softball program through its transition to Division I, leading the Aggies to their first Big West Conference championship and an NCAA Regional appearance. She was named Big West Coach of the Year and earned national recognition through her service on the NCAA Division I Softball All-American Committee, where she also served as the Pacific Region Chair. Yoder returns to the Bay Valley Conference as an administrator, where she previously captured a conference title, earned Bay Valley Conference Coach of the Year honors, and led Napa Valley College to two regional appearances in softball before advancing to lead the program at UC Davis. Earlier in her career at Cal State East Bay (CSU Hayward), she captured a Cal Pac Championship, led her team to a regional runner-up finish, and was named Cal Pac Coach of the Year.

A former All-American student-athlete at West Valley College, Yoder continued her playing career at the University of New Mexico before competing professionally in the Women’s Professional Fastpitch League. The 1999 and 2000 teams she coached at CSU Hayward were inducted into the CSU East Bay Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024. She was inducted into the Live Oak High School Hall of Fame in 2015 in recognition of her achievements.

Yoder holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Kinesiology, along with an adaptive physical education credential, a current teaching credential in physical education, and multiple Title IX certifications. She remains passionate about creating transformative experiences for student-athletes and is dedicated to building programs where students thrive academically, athletically, and personally.
